Matariki Fasting

I took some time over Matariki to do some fasting.

Over 4 days I reduced things down to vegetable juices, bone broth, water kefir, pine pollen, and ginger tea supercharged with Shilajit & lions mane. I would even sip the juice out of a sauerkraut jar.

Besides a normal morning yoga & workout routine in between baby sleeps, I would sauna when I could (thanks Cat & Bmo), and blessed to be able to get all the organic vegetables for my juices at the local Mangaroa Farms shop / Kete Kai.

At night I would coconut oil pull in the mouth and then always take the time to floss (so easy to skip), but good gut health begins as oral health.

I wouldn’t recommend fasting for everyone - especially breastfeeding mothers for them I would recommend what Tamsin Kaufman did, and bake / enjoy chickpea cookies at my expense.

10 years ago I first got into fasting coming out of the debaucherously toxic days of university, and through the Organic Mechanic days we would fast all the time. But somewhere between there and now “there has never been a good time” and I had never been able to break that first day without eating something.

Being in that fasted state shows me how much I would eat or snack for emotional gratification, and I am grateful now for a new perspective and discipline.

From day 2ish onwards my head begins to feel really “fresh” like it’s got a ring of eucalyptus mint around it. That feeling still lingers.

Mentally the clarity on mission/purpose, and creative inspiration now gets me up in the morning even earlier than my now 2 month old son - who is also going through immense changes in his cells.

Just as important as that “100 hours” is the easing back into eating solid foods with a shrunken stomach capacity - I had home made organic chicken soup & gangster easy to digest proteins like pasture raised eggs.

Chewing again once more, I have the childlike joy and appreciation for food.

To #fast but then remember to #slow down, and chew.
